Silence came down, surrounding the two of them. Mitexi's heartbeat slowed, pounding in her thoughts. A trail of blood slipped out of his mouth when he whispered her name.
"I'm sorry… Kyo."
She pulled Nightshade from his chest, flinching at the crimson life that spattered over her shaking body.
He fell against her, pleading to know why. Not why she killed him, but why she chose another.
She couldn't answer, disoriented by the sin she had just committed. And the tears that would never return.
It was her job. Taking the life of a fallen. The reasoning brought no comfort.
